US Threatens to Widen the Scope of Tariffs on EU Goods Over Airbus Subsidies

The World Trade Organisation dismissed on Monday the EU’s claim that Airbus is no longer backed by government subsidies. The EU will appeal the ruling. Since 2006 the US has argued that EU member states provided Airbus

with soft loans that allowed the company to develop the A380 gaining a competitive advantage over Boeing. The EU argues that the decision to stop the production of the A380 means that Boeing can no longer claim that Airbus has an unfair competitive advantage.
