Bulgargaz Files 400 Mln Euro Arbitration Claim Against Gazprom

Bulgaria's public gas supplier Bulgargaz said on Tuesday that it has launched arbitration proceedings against the export arm of Russian gas giant Gazprom at the International Court of Arbitration in Paris, seeking over 400 million euro ($433.4 million) in damages resulting from discontinued gas supplies in 2022

In May, Bulgargaz asked Gazprom Export to settle the claim voluntarily but the Russian company did not respond, prompting Bulgargaz to pursue legal action, the public gas supplier said in a press release.

Gazprom cut off gas supplies to Bulgaria in April 2022 because the Southeast European country refused to pay in rubles, following a unilateral change of the contract terms by the Russian company.
