United Arab Emirates-based Uruk Engineering and Contracting Co. LLC has won a $84.5 million contract to set up four power generation units in Baghdad, an Iraqi electricity ministry spokesman said Thursday.

Aziz Sultan told Dow Jones Newswires by telephone from Baghdad that the company would install four new units with a total generation capacity of 160 megawatts at Al Taji power station in the northern outskirts of Baghdad.

An Uruk company official confirmed the deal by telephone from Dubai, saying that "the electricity ministry has informed us that our company has won the contract."

The deal has been approved by the Iraqi cabinet, government spokesman Ali Al Dabbagh said in a statement Wednesday.

The units were bought from General Electric Co. (GE) earlier this year, the electricity ministry's spokesman said. He didn't state the value of the purchase.
