Greek former EU Commissioner, Stavros Dimas will be proposed by the Greek Government as the next president of the Hellenic Republic, to replace Karolos Papoulias whose term in office expires on March 2015.

This decision, while not yet made public, was announced by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to Mr Dimas, during a meeting earlier this morning, New Europe has learned.

Mr. Dimas has been EU Commissioner for the Environment from 2004 to 2009.
