Turkey's Bosporus and Dardanelles straits both resumed tanker traffic Wednesday, Turkish maritime officials said, the Ihlas News Agency, or IHA, reported.

The two straits, the only sea routes between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean were closed to tanker traffic due dense fog Tuesday.

A Coastal Safety official said the Bosporus Strait resumed both north- and southbound tanker traffic from 0430 GMT, while the Dardanelles Strait resumed southbound tanker traffic from 0730 GMT. The official said the Dardanelles Strait will be closed to northbound passages until 1030 GMT due a liquefied natural gas tanker passage.

Turkish Straits, an important sea-route for tankers carrying Russian and Caspian oil from the Black Sea ports to international markets, are often closed in winter due to high winds, snow and fog.
