Russian Deputy Prime Minster Dmitry Medvedev Wednesday ordered his staff to speed up efforts to give natural gas monopoly OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) a license for the Chayandinskoye gas field in Yakutia, Interfax news agency reported.

Medevev, who is also chairman of Gazprom, said he had asked the Industry and Energy Ministry to come up with proposals to enable Gazprom to start work on the field.

"In order for practical work to begin," it is essential for Gazprom to receive a license from the Federal Fund of Strategic Deposits by the end of the first quarter, said Gazprom's Deputy Chief Executive Alexander Ananenkov.

Gazprom needs gas from Chayandinskoye to supply East Siberia and Russia's Far East.

Chayandinskoye has potential reserves of 1.26 trillion cubic meters of gas, said Ananenkov.

Gazprom said last year it expected the project to be launched in 2016.
