Turkey has invited Russia to take part in a tender to build the country's first nuclear power station, Ihlas news agency, or IHA, reported Friday, citing the Turkish foreign ministry.
A senior official from the ministry said late Thursday that Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, who visited Moscow Tuesday and Wednesday, had made the invitation.
Babacan also invited Russia to cooperate on the Samsun-Ceyhan Pipeline Project, which runs between the Black Sea and Mediterranean coasts of Turkey.
He also wanted Russia to help build a a liquefied natural gas terminal at Turkey's Ceyhan port on the Mediterranean coast and underground gas storage facilities, according to the official.
Turkey has one LNG terminal on its northwest coast.
Russian officials were interested in these businesses, the official added, without providing further details.
The nuclear power tender was scheduled to open Feb. 21, but has been delayed while the energy ministry waits for government comment on the tender's technical details. It wasn't clear how long the delay would be.
