Hungary and Croatia plan to link their natural gas transport networks by 2011 at the latest, Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany said Tuesday at a joint press conference with his Croatian counterpart, Ivo Sanader.
"The linkup (of the networks) will allow Hungary access to the liquified natural gas terminal to be built in Croatia," Gyurcsany said.
"This will decrease Hungary's dependance on Russian gas imports," Gyurcsany added.
The two premiers also discussed the possibility of building joint, strategic oil product storage facilities.
Sanader said his government will soon make a decision on the exact location of the LNG terminal to be built.
He added that they were open to suggestions that Hungarian oil and gas company MOL Nyrt. (MOL.BU) be given a significant role in the consortium in charge of building the LNG terminal.
