The Portuguese government is about to launch a new phase of its wind energy tender, the national news agency reported Friday, citing Prime Minister Jose Socrates speaking in parliament.
Socrates said the new tender is for a 200 MW block, which is part of a 1,500 MW tender, worth a total of EUR1.2 billion.
In August, the Ventinveste consortium, led by oil and gas company Galp Energia SGPS SA (GALP.LB) won a tender for a 400-megawatt wind-generated electricity farm from the Portuguese government.
Power utility Energias de Portugal SA (EDP.LB) was awarded the first 1,000 MW block in October, with Spain's Iberdrola SA (IBE.MC) and Union Fenosa SA (UNF.MC) being excluded from the tender.
