Police said Thursday that an equipment case containing low-level radioactive material that was stolen from a car this week has been found in the doorway of a school in Madrid.
The case was unopened and there were no signs of radioactivity in the area, a police spokeswoman said, adding that the case was returned to its owners Thursday.
Police had been notified by a passer-by of the case's whereabouts. The Nuclear Safety Council had issued an alert after the equipment used to measure the density and humidity of soil was stolen Tuesday.
The council had said the equipment posed no radiological risk as long as the case was kept closed.
