The Hungarian Economics and National Development Minister Gordon Bajnai decided to raise natural gas prices by 9.4% from July 1 for residential users, business daily Napi Gazdasag reported Friday without naming its sources.
The price hike will be lower than the Hungarian Energy Office, or MEH's, proposal for a 12.5% increase, it added.
As for industrial users, gas prices are to rise somewhat less than the MEH's 8% price rise proposal for this group of consumers, the paper added.
The price increases will be less than proposed, just like at the time of the April increase, since the government fears further losses in its popularity, the paper claimed.
The gas price hikes will likely result in a rise in electricity and district heating prices, the paper noted.
