German utility E.ON AG's (EOA.XE) nuclear reactor Grohnde Monday resumed power generation following a planned annual maintenance outage, the environment ministry of the German state of Lower Saxony, where the facility is located, said Monday.
The 1.36-gigawatt nuclear reactor had been offline for maintenance works since May 10. During the outage 48 of the power plant's 193 fuel rods were replaced, the ministry said.
The restart of the power plant was slightly delayed. On Friday E.ON said on its Web site it expected the resumption of electricity production Monday. Earlier last week the company had anticipated restarting the reactor Sunday.
E.ON owns 83.3% of the Grohnde reactor through its E.ON Kernkraft unit. The remaining 16.7% is owned by Stadtwerke Bielefeld, the municipal utility of the city of Bielefeld.
