RWE AG (RWE.XE), the country's largest power producer by generation capacity, said Tuesday it plans to reorganize its domestic energy retail operations to better cope with increased competition.
"We need to become more effective (in the retail operations)... and are examining a number of measures," said Chief Financial Officer Rolf Pohlig in a conference call to journalists.
He added, however, that no concrete decision have yet been made.
Pohlig only said RWE is considering to spin-off its German power transmission grid operations from the sales and network unit RWE Energy and relocate it in a separate unit that would report directly the corporate head office.
Recent press reports have speculated RWE is considering to bundle its regional energy suppliers into a single unit in the medium-term. As a first step, RWE intends to combine the regional suppliers RWE Weser-Ems and RWE Rhein-Ruhr, the press reports said.
