Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler is set to finalize a gas accord with Iran during his trip to Tehran starting Saturday evening, Iran's state news agency Irna reports.
The gas deal is on the top of the agenda when delegations of the two sides meet for talks, Irna reports.
The deal is expected to be finalized after Iranian and Turkish leaders welcomed it during President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent visit to Turkey, Irna reports.
Turkish diplomats say there is great potential for economic cooperation in various fields, including energy and gas, between Tehran and Ankara, according to Irna.
In August, President Ahmadinejad issued a joint statement with Turkish officials saying both sides had agreed to transfer gas from Turkmenistan to Turkey via Iran and make joint investments to establish three gas power plants in Turkey and two hydroelectric power plants in Iran, Irna adds.
The statement added both sides will try to finalize agreements signed between the two capitals in 2007 and 2008, Irna reports.
