Russia's gas monopoly OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) said it will more than double the price of gas for Ukraine to more than $400 per 1,000 cubic meters if the country fails to pay off a $2.4 billion debt for past gas deliveries, the daily Kommersant reports Friday, citing Gazprom documents.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev urged Alexei Miller, Gazprom's chief executive, to recover the debt "either voluntarily or compulsorily in line with current laws and within the framework of bilateral relations."
Ukraine's current price for gas is $179.5 per 1,000 cubic meters.
