The Kenyan government will seek Iran's help to develop a nuclear facility to generate cheaper cheap electricity, the Business daily reports Monday.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to visit Kenya this month and the issue will be on his agenda with his Kenyan counterpart, the daily said.
Government pronouncements indicate an increasing interest in setting up a nuclear power project. The Office of the Vice President has confirmed a deadline of seven years whereby Kenya should be able to set up a functioning nuclear energy project, the daily said.
Soaring electricity demand, concerns about global warming caused in part by carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel combustion and the volatile prices for petroleum products and natural gas are some of the reasons influencing this shift, the daily said.
