Russian natural gas supplies to Turkey via Ukraine decreased to 38 million cubic meters a day from the current 40 million cubic meters after Russia's OAO Gazprom's (GAZP.RS) decision to cut gas to Ukraine, a senior official from the Energy Ministry told Ihlas News Agengy, or IHA, on Sunday.
The amount of the natural gas that comes to Turkey decreased but the country wasn't affected negatively as this amount still meets the consumption needs, he said.
"Only a decrease to 10 million cubic meters or to 20 million cubic meters from the 40 million cubic meters affects Turkey negatively," he noted.
"We are prepared for possible disruptions like this," he added.
In 2006, a similar dispute between Russia and Ukraine caused a fall in gas deliveries to Turkey.
Russia is the main gas supplier to Turkey.
