Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko on Wednesday demanded that Russia resume gas shipments to Europe "immediately," in a letter to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko on Wednesday demanded that Russia resume gas shipments to Europe "immediately," in a letter to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso.

"I believe it is necessary to renew immediately the daily transit of gas to the European states in the volumes and directions employed" in 2008, until a new agreement is reached between Kiev and Moscow, Yushchenko said in the letter, quoted in a statement by his press service.
