The union representing workers at the Public Power Corporation (PPC) is to join a general strike this Thursday, which could result in power cuts. PPC workers are also due to join rolling 48-hour strike action from the evening of Tuesday, May 25. Their union is protesting austerity measures and plans to reform the country’s creaking pension system. It has accused the government of “succumbing to the pressure of [global financial] markets” to the detriment of the Greek people.
