Italian energy firm Eni SpA (E) has asked Azerbaijan's state energy company Socar to participate in a project to ship natural gas from Turkmenistan to Europe, the Azeri company said Thursday.
The project would involve shipping between 6 billion and 8 billion cubic meters of compressed natural gas a year from Turkmenistan across the Caspian Sea to Baku via tanker, the head of Socar's investment department, Vagif Aliyev, said. The gas will then be shipped from Baku to Europe by pipeline.
The project was proposed Wednesday during a meeting between Eni's Vice President Daniele De Giovanni and Socar's President Rovnaq Abdullayev.
