CNPC and KazMunayGaz have pledged cooperation in building the second segment of the China-Kazakhstan gas pipeline, CNPC said on Sunday.

The sides will jointly build the pipeline, which will bring gas to southern Kazakhstan, and consider gas deliveries from the Caspian region to China. They will also encourage gas exports from other Central Asian countries to China and gas transit.

The Chinese-Kazakh gas pipeline is an important part of the China-Central Asia line. The first segment of 1,300 kilometers starts on the Uzbek-Kazakh border and ends in China’s Horgos. It was put to service in December 2009. The second segment of 1,400 kilometers will go through Kazakhstan and have the rated capacity of ten billion cubic meters of gas per year.
