Spanish renewable energy company Iberdrola Renovables SA (IBR.MC) Friday
said its electricity output surged in the second quarter amid surging wind
power production in the U.S.
Production in the second quarter rose 17% on the year to 6,046 gigawatt-hours. That
was, however, less than the 6,483 GWh produced in the first quarter of 2010.
Wind power output in the
U.S.
jumped 32% and accounted for almost half of the company's overall output in the
second quarter. But wind output in the
U.K.
plunged 40% in the quarter, and rose a moderate 5.3% in
Spain
.
The company also said its capacity to produce energy reached 11,406 megawatts,
up 14% from end-2009 levels, mainly due to wind power additions in the U.S.
Iberdrola Renovables is a unit of Spanish power utility Iberdrola SA (IBE.MC),
and is the world's biggest wind-power generator.
