Iran plans to begin production of its own fuel in late August-early September of 2011, vice-president and the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, told Iran’s news agencies on Monday.
“We are working on the task and I hope we will provide the Tehran research reactor with fuel by the Iranian month of Shahrivar (from August 23 to September 22),” he said.
He added that at present, Iran has already produced 20 kilograms of 20-percent enriched uranium.
Last February the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran launched the production of 20-percent enriched uranium at its Natanz nuclear centre after the talks on fuel supplies for medical purposes of the Tehran research reactor reached a deadlock.
