Bulgaria’s Ecosource Energy will partner with WinWinD, based in Espoo,
Finland, to develop the Murgash Windfarm project, 45 kilometers (28 miles)
northeast of Sofia, Bulgaria, where Ecosource is headquartered. Construction of
the project, which has been delayed several times, is now expected to begin in
the first quarter of 2011.
The first phase of the project will cost US$159 million. When it becomes
operational in the second quarter of 2012, phase one will have an optimal
capacity of 135 megawatts, provided by 42 turbines of one to three megawatts
each. Ecosource Energy has contracted with the Bulgarian National Electric
Company to supply the regional grid with renewable energy.
Ultimately, Murgash Windfarm will have a maximum production capacity of
300 megawatts and become a component of the Bulgaria Green Energy Development
Project.
