economy agency, said Tuesday.
The government will carry out the program in the production-intensive
province
of
Guangdong

coal-rich
Shaanxi
, heavy-industry-intensive
Liaoning
,
Hubei
and
Yunnan
, as well as the cities of
Tianjin
,
Chongqing
, Shenzhen,
Xiamen
,
Hangzhou
,
Nanchang
,
Guiyang
, and

, according to a statement on NDRC's website.
The initiative is part of a package of policies and measures
China
's
government is rolling out to make good on its pledge to nearly halve carbon
intensity over the next ten years from its levels five years ago.
The selected provinces and cities are required to set up targets and detailed
measures to cut carbon intensity, the amount of carbon produced for each unit
of gross domestic product.
They will develop low-carbon industries including architecture, transportation,
and renewable energy, as well as measures such as environmental protection and
energy saving projects, it said.
Beijing
aims to reduce energy intensity by 40% 45% by 2020 from 2005 levels.
