Two employees at BP PLC's (BP, BP.LN) Texas City, Texas, refinery suffered steam burns while performing work at a unit and have been hospitalized, a spokesman said Wednesday.

The incident took place at
4 p.m. CDT (2100 GMT) on Tuesday. One of the employees was flown to the University of Texas Medical branch in Galveston , Texas , and the other was taken by ambulance to the Mainland Medical Center in Texas City , BP spokesman Daren Beaudo said.

The refinery was the site of a fatal explosion in 2005, which killed 15, injured hundreds, and resulted in unprecedented fines for the U.K.-based oil giant. Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency said it was launching an investigation into a benzene release that began April 6 and lasted until May to determine whether the refinery violated the Clean Air Act.
