Russia 's Economy Ministry has lowered its forecast for the country's natural gas exports for 2010 to 185.2 billion cubic meters, the Interfax news agency reports Friday citing a ministry report.

The new estimate is down from 205.7 billion cubic meters forecasted in May and 316.7 billion forecasted in December last year.

The ministry said it revised its forecast due to lower European consumption.

Demand for Russian gas is falling as large quantities of liquefied natural gas are being sold in
Europe , while European spot prices remain lower than long-term contracts with Russia 's state gas firm OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS).

However, the ministry also raised its export forecast for 2011 to 210.1 billion cubic meters from 207.9 billion, and expects total Russian gas production at 653 billion cubic meters, up from 646 billion forecasted in May.
