Demand in the global wind power industry will remain flat this year, but
then rise at least 10% next amid mounting call in emerging economies, Tulsi
Tanti, chairman of Indian wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy Ltd. (532667.BY),
said Thursday.
This year, a steep fall of about 40% in
U.S.
demand amid diminished energy needs and low gas prices will be compensated by a
surge of some 40% in Asian demand, Tanti told Dow Jones Newswires in an
interview. Tanti was in
Lisbon
for a
clean energy conference.
In Europe 2010 is a year of stagnation, he said, with traditional markets such
as
Spain
waiting for "clarity" in renewables regulation while new markets such
as
Turkey
,
Italy
and
Sweden
were
taking off.
Tanti didn't give any guidance for his own company, but stressed Suzlon was
present in
Germany
,
France
,
Italy
, the
U.K.
, the
emerging European offshore wind power market and in emerging economies, above
all in rapidly growing
Asia
.
"We are in both parts of the world," Tanti said. "We're well positioned in
all emerging markets."
