electricity tariffs will rise on average 3.8% in 2011 for domestic consumers
and between 4% and 10% for industrial users,
Portugal
's
energy watchdog ERSE has said in a report.
The country's 36 very high and high voltage industrial users will face a 10%
rise in their electricity charges next year while industrial clients in the
medium-to-especially-low voltage categories will only face a 4% rise, the
regulator said Wednesday.
The rise is due in part to higher costs associated with renewable power
generation and co-generation, which involves using the heat and power generated
from a plant to supply electricity and heat to homes.
The government however is offering discounts for those companies which switch
from regulated tariffs to unregulated tariffs, newspaper Publico said Thursday.
Average electricity prices for industrial users in the very high voltage
category will receive a 7% discount while industrial users in the special low
voltage category will receive a 3% discount linked to the interruptability of
their service, Publico added.
