Kuwait
will
end problems at its electricity distribution networks within the next 10 years,
state-run Kuwait News Agency, or Kuna, reports Tuesday citing a Kuwaiti
official.
The ministry of electricity's next strategic plan is to replace electrical
transformers, that have been in service for more than 25 years, at the rate of
1,000 transformers a year, Kuna reports citing Saleh Al Musallam, the
ministry's assistant undersecretary for distribution networks.
The proposed time period to tackle the network problems is long because of the
logistical difficulties that the ministry is facing as well as the safety measures
that are being taken, he said according to the news agency.
Summer heat is a major challenge as most of the cables cause electricity
outages since they are old and can't withstand the heat, Kuna cites Musallam as
saying. He added that the ministry has launched a tender for development and
maintenance works in the six Kuwaiti provinces in order to tackle this problem.
