Russian natural gas monopoly OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) and Germany's BASF SE's (BAS.XE) Wintershall AG said Thursday they have signed a memorandum of understanding on jointly developing gas fields in Siberia and the North Sea.

The companies said they are considering a 50/50 participation in developing two
gas fields in the Urengoi region of
Siberia
.
The memorandum also envisages Gazprom's participation in Wintershall's
exploration and production projects in the
North Sea
.
Gazprom and Wintershall already operate Achimgaz, a 50/50 joint venture in
Urengoi.
