Vietnam is unlikely to reconsider its nuclear power development plans following the earthquake and tsunami-triggered problems at nuclear power plants in Japan, an official said Monday.

"I don't think the incident in Japan will have any impact on the nuclear power development plans in Vietnam," Vuong Huu Tan, head of the Vietnam Nuclear Energy Institute, told Dow Jones Newswires.

The Vietnamese government said last year it plans to have 13 nuclear reactors in eight separate plants with a combined capacity of 15 gigawatts by 2030--10% of its total generating capacity.
