Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa Corporacion Tecnologica SA
(GAM.MC) said Tuesday it will supply 200 megawatts worth of capacity to Chinese
giant power company China Huadian Corp.
Gamesa will supply and install 100 wind turbines of 2 megawatts of generation
capacity each for Huadian between 2011 and 2012, said the company in a note. The
contract could be worth around EUR240 millions, said a person working in the
wind industry.
Gamesa signed the agreement with its renewable energy subsidiary, Huadian New
Energy Development Co.
The contract is in line with Gamesa's efforts to boost its business in emerging
markets such as
China
,
India
and
Brazil
,
given that wind energy development in
Spain
and
Europe
remains weak. In the first half of the year,
China
accounted for 20% of the company's total sales.
Gamesa is the second largest European wind turbine manufacturer by market value
and one of the world's ten largest manufacturers by market share.
Huadian is one of the five major Chinese state-controlled power companies.
