French nuclear group Areva S.A.(AREVA.FR) may decide in December whether
to discontinue some of its activities in Germany once the country phases out
its nuclear power operations, Chief Executive Luc Oursel tells German newspaper
Handelsblatt in an advanced release of its Wednesday edition.
"We are looking at which services our customers in
Germany
will
continue to require and how export of nuclear production and services from
Germany
looks
to other countries," Oursel says.
The result of this review also depends on whether nuclear technology is still
welcome here, Oursel adds.
"We might decide to phase-out some activities," he is reported as
saying.
A preliminary decision is due in December when Oursel will present his new
strategy to the supervisory board, the report says.
"However, it is clear that Areva will remain in
Germany
. The
energy transition also offers further opportunities," Oursel says, adding
that the company has a strong foothold in renewable energies.
