Mainland Greece added only 7.3 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in the
first six months of 2014, as compared to 934 MW in the year-ago period, the
Hellenic Transmission System Operator SA (HTSO) said on Friday.
The
figures do not include information about the newly-added capacity on
non-interconnected Greek islands, the grid operator noted.
At the end of
June, mainland’s PV capacity in Greece amounted to 2,427.3 MW, comprising
2,077.2 MW of grid-connected facilities larger than 10 kW and 350 MW of rooftop
systems under 10 kW. According to the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network
Operator SA (HEDNO), the installed solar capacity of non-interconnected
territories was 135.8 MW at end-2013. At present, the overall installed PV
capacity in Greece stands at some 2,563 MW.
Under the European Union's
(EU) climate change plan through 2020 the share of renewables in Greece has to
reach 18% by the end of the decade. In 2012, renewables accounted for 15.1% of
the country’s power mix, data by EU’s statistics office Eurostat showed in
March.
