Bulgaria is negotiating with neighbouring Greece possible gas supplies from the
Revithoussa terminal to prepare for a possible disruption of deliveries via
Ukraine, Bulgarian energy minister Vasil Shtonov said on Thursday.
The
talks with the Greek side also cover providing a reverse flow through the
existing cross-border gas interconnector, the energy ministry quoted Shtonov as
saying in a statement.
According to Shtonov,430 million cubic metres (cu
m) of natural gas have been stockpiled at Bulgaria's Chiren underground gas
storage, enough to last about 120 days.
Due to technical reasons, some
4.0 million cu m can be withdrawn from the storage per day whereas daily
domestic consumption reaches 10-11 million cu m in the winter, Shtonov
added.
The Chiren underground gas storage can stockpile up to 550 million
cu m of natural gas.
