Bulgarian citizens consider energy to be the least competitive
sector in the country, data from a Eurobarometer survey showed on
Tuesday.
A total of 41% of Bulgarians cited the energy sector as lacking
competition, in addition to problems such as higher prices, less product or
supplier choice, and lower quality. Throughout the EU, energy was also the
sector cited as being the least competitive but only by 28% of
respondents.
According to the survey, the telecommunications and Internet
and food distributors (supermarkets) sectors were both cited by 19% respondents
in Bulgaria as lacking competition. By comparison, EU respondents placed the
public transport sector as the second least competitive.
Meanwhile, most
Bulgarians, or 64%, consider high prices to be the main problem in sectors where
lack of competition was experienced, followed by difficulty in changing
suppliers.
