Hrvatska, a unit of German energy company RWE Group, has started offering gas
supply services to business customers in Croatia through a newly set-up unit,
RWE Plin, RWE Plin said on Wednesday.
RWE Plin said in a statement it is
entering only the business segment of the local gas market because prices on the
household segment are regulated and its full liberalization will not happen
until 2017.
Business customers in Croatia have been able to switch gas
suppliers for a couple of years now and over 500 large companies have so far
taken advantage of this option, the statement said.
RWE is currently the
only company on the Croatian market offering both gas and electricity supplies
to its customers.
In 2013, RWE entered Croatia's power supply market
after acquiring local electricity supplier Energija 2 Sustavi and renaming it to
RWE Energija.
RWE Energija currently has 100,000 power supply
customers.
RWE has been present in Croatia since 1996 and has established
local relationships connected to its joint business with state-owned power
utility HEP at the TE Plomin thermal power plant, and to ZOV, a waste water
treatment plant in Zagreb.
