The Institute of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) is organizing an Open Forum
on “Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production in Greece and the East
Mediterranean”, which is to be held on June 10, 2015, in Athens. Main
discussion topic of this event will be the strategy for developing Greece’s hydrocarbon
resources.
High-ranking representatives of Greece’s hydrocarbon sector, senior
executives from companies active in oil and gas research in the Eastern
Mediterranean, as well as experts and academics, will participate as speakers in
this IENE event, mainly covering latest developments in Greece, Cyprus and
Israel.
“A Strategy for Unlocking Greece’s Hydrocarbon Potential”, a very
topical study of IENE, will be this Open Forum’ s special feature, to be
presented by its authors Mr. Costis Stambolis (Deputy Chairman and Executive
Director of IENE), Mr. Constantinos Nikolaou (Petroleum Geologist - Energy
Economist , General Director of Kanergy Ltd, Member of the Board of Directors of Cyprus Hydrocarbon Company –CHC, Member of IENE's
BoD), and Mr. Gus Papamichalopoulos (Lawyer,
Partner of KG Law Firm, Secretary General of IENE), with a discussion to
follow.
It has to be noted that IENE over the years has been actively
promoting, at an international level, Greece’s efforts on hydrocarbon research
and exploration as well as hydrocarbon upstream activity in the East
Mediterranean and the Adriatic. Since 2012, the Institute has already organized
two special conferences in Athens, namely an International Workshop on
«Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production in the East Mediterranean and the
Adriatic Sea» (April 26-27, 2012) and the 2nd SE Europe Regional Upstream
Workshop on «Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production in the Adriatic, the Black Sea
and the East Mediterranean» (October 31 – November 1, 2013), with the
participation of specialists, executives from international companies with
experience and active presence in the region in the upstream sector, government
officials etc.
The Forum will open with a speech by Prof. Apostolos Alexopoulos,
Secretary General at Greece’s Ministry of Reconstruction of Production,
Environment & Energy. Prof. Sofia Stamatakis, President of the Hellenic
Hydrocarbon Resources Management S.A, will refer to the details of the ongoing 2nd
International Licensing Round, offering 20 blocks offshore in the Ionian Sea
off western Greece and south of Crete. As the deadline for the offers of the
Licensing Round has been extended to Tuesday the 14th of July 2015, Prof. Sofia
Stamatakis’ presentation is eagerly anticipated.
Seismic research for hydrocarbon exploration in the East Mediterranean
and the Adriatic will be presented by Mr. Jevon Hilder, Business Development
Manager of Spectrum SA. (UK), which is one of the most active companies in this
field in the region.
Dr. Charles Ellinas, CEO of Cyprus Natural
Hydrocarbons Company Ltd Research and Production of Hydrocarbons in Cyprus and
Israel, will analyze the most significant aspects of research and production of
hydrocarbons in Cyprus and Israel.
A roundtable discussion will follow, with the participation of Mr.
Ioannis Maniatis (Professor, University of Piraeus, Former Minister of
Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Greece), Dr. Spyridon Bellas (Head of
Hydrocarbon Directorate, Ministry of of
Reconstruction of Production, Environment & Energy, Greece), Mr. Ioannis
Gregoriou (Director, Hydrocarbons Research & Production, Hellenic Petroleum
SA., Greece), Mr. Mathios Rigas (CEO, Energean Oil & Gas, Greece) and Dr.
Elias Konofagos (Executive Vice-President, Flow SA, Greece).
The Open Forum will close with conclusions by the
organizers.
