Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has said that through their trilateral cooperation with Egypt, Israel, Lebanon and Jordan, Cyprus and Greece have become factors of stability in the Southeastern Mediterrannean and this is extremely important.

Tsipras was speaking during his meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades ahead of the fifth Trilateral Summit among Cyprus, Greece and Egypt, that took place in Nicosia. On his part, Anastasiades welcomed Tsipras expresssing the belief that the Trilateral Summit will be as productive as the previous ones, taking into consideration the new sectors of action which are on their agenda.

He referred to the official visit which the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi paid to Cyprus on Monday 20 November, noting that they exchanged views and agreed on fields of cooperation between the two countries, "which are extended to the trilateral effort we are making and which will be on the agenda of our consultations today." Anastasiades also expressed Cyprus` solidarity with Greece that has been hit by adverse weather conditions.

On his part, Tsipras expressed his satisfaction that he is visiting Cyprus. He said that Cyprus and Greece have managed through their close cooperation to achieve something important, as they have become a pillar of stability in an unstable region.

He said that "through the trilateral cooperation schemes with Egypt, a very important country in the region, and also with Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Cyprus and Greece are becoming factors of stability in the Southeastern Mediterranean and this is extremely important."

The Greek PM also reiterated his country`s support to a just and viable settlement of the Cyprus problem, and thanked President Anastasiades for Cyprus` support and solidarity with Greece as regards the great tragedy which the country is facing, due to a severe storm.
