Turkey's oil imports increased by 6.43 percent year-on-year reaching 42.7 million tons last year, according to Turkish energy watchdog data on Thursday.

Turkey imported the highest oil quantities respectively from Iraq, Russia and Iran, official information gathered by Anadolu Agency (AA) reveals

Oil imports from these countries accounted for 62.4 percent of total imports.

Refinery license holders imported 30.1 million tons of oil out of the total amount, distributor license holders imported 12.5 million tons and bunker fuel license holders received 795 thousand tons of oil in 2017.

Additionally, Turkey's diesel imports increased by 8.7 percent to 13.5 million tons in 2017, compared to 2016.

The average tax excluded price of one liter of 95 octane unleaded fuel was 2.08 Turkish liras and diesel oil was 2.12 liras per liter liras in 2017.

Petroleum prices increased more than 30 percent in 2017 compared to 2016. 

US$1 equals 4.29 Turkish liras, according to Turkey's Central Bank data.
