CEZ, active in the Romanian power distribution sector since 2005, has actively sought to expand into generation there.

Apart from its home Czech market CEZ, 66%-owned by the Czech state, also operates in Poland, Bulgaria, Russia and parts of former Yugoslavia. It is seeking to build power plants in Hungary and Slovakia.

CEZ said it wouldn't be disclosing details of its bid to build the thermal power plant in Borzesti in the northeastern Romania.

At 1055 GMT, CEZ traded down 0.4% or 5 koruna ($0.27) on the day at CZK1,225 in an overall declining market.
