French utility group Electricite de France (1024251.FR)has been asked by the Spanish market regulator to clarify its intentions regarding a possible bid for Spanish power firm Iberdrola SA (IBE.MC) in the coming days, business daily Les Echos reports Tuesday.
According to Les Echos, sources close to EdF think launching a bid in the near term would be "completely awkward."
EdF Chief Executive Pierre Gadonneix confirmed last week that his company could be interested in bidding for Spain's Iberdrola.
