Iran will build a hydroelectric dam in Mali, the semi-official Mehr News Agency reported Sunday, citing Iran's energy minister.

Parviz Fattah said Sunday the project is moving forward based on a previously signed agreement, Mehr said, citing Iran's IRIB news agency.

"The Finance and Economic Affairs Ministry, the Export Development Bank (EDB), and the Export Guarantee Fund (EGF) will finance the project," Fattah said on the sidelines of his meeting with Mamadou Diarra, Mali's Minister of Energy, Mines, and Water Resources, reported Mehr.

"The Energy Ministry and Farab Co. will also supervise and implement the project," Fattah said, according to Mehr.

Farab Co., a contractor for water and energy projects, is headquartered in Iran.

Mehr did not provide a timeframe for the project.
