The Iraqi oil ministry will make slight changes to model contracts for the eight oil and gas fields included in its landmark first bidding round in an effort to accelerate the process of awarding contracts to international oil firms by the end of June, a senior Iraqi oil official said Monday.

"We will make slight amendments to the current oil and gas service model contracts," Abdul Mahdy al-Ameedi, deputy director general at Iraq's Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Directorate, or PCLD, told Dow Jones Newswires by telephone from Baghdad. He didn't give details on these new changes.

He said "final copies" of the model contracts would be sent to companies between April 15 and 17.

Iraq sent two types of model contracts, one for oil fields and the other for gas fields, to international oil companies on March 19 and asked them to present comments on these model contracts by April 1.
