Output from Xinjiang may exceed 100 million tons in 2010, it added.

Xinjiang is accelerating the development of its coal industry, with 139 coal mine construction projects approved by the regional government by the end of July, with a planned total annual production capacity of 226 million tons, Xinhua said.

Xinjiang is rich in coal resources, with potentialreserves of 2.19 trillion tons, equivalent to 40% of the nation's coal reserves, Xinhua said.

By the end of 2008, proven coal reserves in Xinjiang totaled 1.99 trillion tons, it added.
