China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. (SNP) started construction of a 2-million-ton-per-year diesel hydrotreating unit at its Guangzhou refinery, with the upgrade to cost a total of CNY700 million ($105.7 million), parent China Petrochemical Corp.

The unit is expected to be operational by the end of 2011, Sinopec Group said in an in-house newsletter distributed Thursday.

Once the unit is operational, Sinopec's Guangzhou refinery will be able to produce 4.6 million tons of diesel a year that will meet national quality standard IV, which is similar to Euro IV standard, the company said.
