Poland welcomes a study by the European Union's Directorate General for Energy, which concludes there is no need for new legislation to regulate shale gas exploration, an official at Poland 's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday.

"We hope that the analysis...will dispel the doubts that have appeared in some populations of EU member countries," said Katarzyna Kacperczyk, a deputy director at the Ministry's economic affairs department. "This will be conducive not only to achieving the EU's energy and climate policy objectives, but also increasing the EU's competitiveness, economic growth, and thus overcoming the current [economic] crisis in
Europe ."
