The new U.K. Secretary for Energy and Climate Change Ed Davey Friday told reporters that he aims to continue the vision of creating a green economy.

"I want us to have a green economy where there's lots of green jobs to help grow our economy," said Davey, who is a member of the Liberal Democrats, the junior government coalition party.

He also said he is particularly conscious of the impact high energy bills are having on consumer households in the U.K.

Davey added that he will take up the challenges of climate change and energy security and is determined to make the coalition government's priorities his priorities.

His predecessor Chris Huhne, also a Liberal Democrat, resigned Friday to fight a criminal charge that he misled authorities about an alleged driving offense.
