Greece: EIB Support for Improved Electricity Network

The European Investment Bank (EIB) supports the improvement of the electricity network in Greece with a EUR 235 million loan to the Greek Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC). The multi-investment programme covering the period 2013-15 aims at renovating and reinforcing the electricity distribution network, as well as extending it to enable some 186 000 new connections throughout peninsular and insular Greece.

According to Vedomosti, the European Commission (EC) decided not to exclude Nord Stream's pipeline, Opal, from the Third Energy Package at its meeting on 10 March. This will prevent utilisation of the pipeline capacity at 100% capacity. Nord Stream is 51% controlled by Gazprom, while Wintershall Holding and E.On Ruhrgas own 15.5%. Gasunie and GdF Suez own 9% each in the consortium.
